It started with a family, a delay, and a question.
In the 1990s, our founder, Ortez Gude, faced a family medical emergency — and found that the care his family needed wasn't available close to home, because a hospital's expansion had been delayed by more than a year. His family had the means to travel across the country for treatment. He never stopped thinking about the families who wouldn't. How could a poorly managed construction project put lives and livelihoods at risk?
He changed careers to answer it, spending years mapping why infrastructure projects fail to open and perform. The finding was counterintuitive: the decisive failure points sat not with contractors, but with the owners and operators — who lacked practices and tools built for their side of the work.
